From Fallout to Sonic: what is confirmed about gaming’s films and TV shows
A spoiler-light status guide to Fallout, The Last of Us, Call of Duty, Mario and Sonic—with dates, source limits and room for clearly labelled theories.

A game’s next chapter might arrive on a cinema screen rather than a console. But a renewed series, a film in development and a released movie are different things. This spoiler-light guide separates those stages for five adaptations worth following as of 30 October 2026.
These are dated reference checks, not five announcements made today. International cinema dates also need a separate Australian confirmation before you plan a night out.
Fallout: Season 3, not another Season 2 launch
Amazon’s official overview, updated on June 19, confirms a third season and said filming was beginning that month in Los Angeles. It names Aaron Paul, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto and Thomasin McKenzie among the additions. It does not announce a Season 3 release date.
That production statement should stay attached to its June date: it is not proof of what the crew is filming today. A new cast member also does not establish which game character, if any, they play. Without a credited role or an announcement, matching an actor to a favourite character is a theory.
The drama is separate from Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, the competition series mentioned in our Fallout Day and World Pets explainer. Similar branding is not a shared season number.
The Last of Us: renewal is the firm starting point
HBO’s official notice confirms a third season. Radio Times’ September 16 report places it in 2027 and reports Casey Bloys saying Craig Mazin has planned it as the final season. That is an attributed account of the current plan, not a guarantee that no further season could ever happen. The report provides no exact premiere date.
If you have finished the television series but not played Part II, approach character explainers carefully. A discussion labelled “game lore” can reveal events the show has not reached. You do not need a spoiler-filled cast theory to keep up with production news.
Call of Duty: a real film project, with details to distinguish
Paramount’s November 2025 shareholder letter identifies the Activision film partnership and Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan. This is an actual studio project, rather than a fan-made trailer.
Variety’s April 17 report from CinemaCon gives June 30, 2028 as the announced theatrical date. That is attributed trade reporting; this guide does not independently confirm Australian cinema scheduling, a complete cast or a finished trailer. A game’s promotional screenshot must not be labelled a movie still. Variety’s July 19 report also attributes a Modern Warfare setting to Berg’s public panel appearance. That establishes the reported universe, not which missions or actors appear in the finished film.
The film is also separate from Modern Warfare 4’s Season 1 update. A game launch and a film production can share a franchise without sharing content or a release schedule.
Mario: Galaxy is already a 2026 release
Nintendo’s May 8 financial briefing records The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s global rollout beginning April 1, with Japan following April 24. An earlier announcement carried different planned dates; the later release report is the better historical reference.
Do not turn an old trailer into an upcoming October premiere. A future Mario film, a spin-off and fan predictions about the next setting each need their own announcement. Current Australian streaming availability and subscription pricing need a separate local check.
Sonic: a listed date has a defined scope
Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 4 page lists March 19, 2027 for theatrical release. We are treating that as the distributor’s listed date, not independently confirmed Australian cinema scheduling.
A scheduled film can still change. Keep the source beside the date, and distinguish an official trailer from a recut or a fabricated “first look”. Familiar music, logos and convincing thumbnails are not enough to authenticate a video.
Where theories and leaks belong
A theory can be interesting without pretending to be news. We will identify the original evidence, explain the interpretation and label what remains unconfirmed. A leak needs an attributable source and a reliability assessment; repeated reposts do not become independent confirmation.
Our five checks before believing a leak apply to screen adaptations too. For now, the release information above is more useful than an unsupported plot leak. A convincing theory can still be a reason to revisit a game; it is not a substitute for a production announcement.
