MW4 DMZ: XP, progression and unlocks
DMZ's separate level track, the station levels that matter, what a failed exfil still pays, and how Prestige changes the economy.
DMZ has its own level track, separate from multiplayer. Multiplayer and Warzone XP does not count toward your DMZ level, and DMZ XP does not flow back. You are levelling two characters in one game.
The cap is level 70. Progression is linear up to it, and a failed exfil still pays: XP is awarded for what you did during the deployment, not for whether you extracted.
What earns XP
- Completing Contracts and Orders.
- Killing enemies, both AI and players.
- Looting and extracting valuables.
- Objective progress: opening secured areas, completing mission steps.
- Surviving longer deployments.
XP is not awarded for simply being in the match. A deployment where you hide for twenty minutes and extract with nothing earns little. A deployment where you fight, loot and die still earns something.
The station levels that matter
These are the FOB station unlock levels from the official deep dive. They are the milestones that change what you can do.
| Station | Unlock | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 3D Printer | Level 2 | Crafting begins. Bandages, armour plates, backpacks and medkits. |
| Boss Board | After the second Order | Boss missions become available. |
| Vendor | Level 5 | Buy weapons, armour and equipment with DMZ Cash. |
| Gunsmith | Level 10 | Build and upgrade weapons. The biggest single unlock. |
| Dog Tag Case | Level 20 | Extra secure storage for high-value items. |
Between those milestones, levels still grant smaller rewards and cash. The early game is a climb to level 10; plan around it.
Stash, slots and secure storage
- Stash holds 40 items and 12 weapons.
- The Basic Pack carries 8 slots.
- There are 2 Active Duty slots in Vault 3.
- Secure slots protect items through a failed exfil; everything else is lost.
Because the stash is small, progression is also an inventory problem. Prioritise items that unlock stations or craft into upgrades over raw valuables early on.
Prestige and the economy
Prestige is available after level 70 and costs DMZ Cash plus escalating gear. The stated costs are 200,000, then 300,000, then 500,000 DMZ Cash, plus escalating gear requirements on each Prestige. Prestige resets your level track but keeps the permanent unlocks and the economy you have built.
Practical reading: do not Prestige until you can comfortably afford the first cost without emptying your stash. A Prestige you cannot fund sets back your weapon building by weeks.
Deployment costs
Insertion is not free once you want better vehicles. The stated costs:
- Ground deployment: free.
- Polaris Dagor A1: 5,000 DMZ Cash.
- LTV: 25,000 DMZ Cash.
- Helicopter: 50,000 DMZ Cash.
- Cargo Plane: 100,000 DMZ Cash.
Free ground deployment is the right choice for your first twenty runs. Spend on vehicles only when you know where you are going and why.
How to level efficiently (editorial advice)
- Run Contracts every deployment. They are the steadiest XP source.
- Extract early and often while learning. A successful small exfil beats a failed large one.
- Do not chase high-threat areas for XP until your stash and weapons can survive a loss.
- Play solo for the first ten levels if squad play slows you down; squads earn more but split attention.
