MW4 DMZ's 29 October patch: more cash, safer exfils and what to do next

Infinity Ward increased cash payouts for three DMZ activities and fixed Scavenger, exfil, Hajin and mission issues. Here is what is confirmed—and what is not a verified meta change.

The latest confirmed DMZ change is an economy increase, not a mystery weapon meta. Infinity Ward's 29 October update raises DMZ Cash rewards for Dynamic Ops, Side Ops and replayed Story Missions. The studio also reports fixes for exfil hazards, mission tracking, Scavenger behaviour and several troublesome locations on Hājīn.

This matters because extraction games punish wasted runs. More money from activities you're already doing can change how quickly you recover after losing an Operator. But the official notes do not state new reward amounts or percentages, and they do not provide enough evidence to declare any gun the best DMZ build.

At a glance: what's confirmed

ChangeOfficial statusWhat it means for your next run
Dynamic Ops rewardsCash increasedWorth reassessing as a source of cash during progression; no numerical rate was published.
Side Ops rewardsCash increasedCan be a more attractive alternative to prolonged looting if the objective is within reach.
Story Mission replaysCash increasedReplayable missions may support rebuilding your bank, but we cannot calculate efficiency without measured runs.
Scavenger at deploymentBug fixedThe studio says it addressed immediate Scavenger detection of newly deployed players.
Exfil helicoptersBug fixedAn issue involving enemy helicopters colliding with the extraction aircraft was addressed.
Hājīn terrain and vehiclesMultiple fixesMore stuck spots and overlapping vehicles at the map edge were corrected; this does not mean every collision issue is gone.

How to use the cash increase without overclaiming

For a new or returning player, the useful question is not 'which activity earns the most money?'—because the published notes do not answer that. Instead, compare what you can finish and extract with safely. A nearby Side Op may be the sensible choice for an under-equipped solo Operator, while a replayed Story Mission may suit a squad that already knows the objectives.

  1. Choose one objective before deployment and check the required gear at the FOB.
  2. Consider a low-threat start if you are replacing lost equipment; Hājīn's labels identify area threats, not player locations.
  3. Complete the objective rather than filling every available slot with junk.
  4. Keep enough resources and required ingredients for recipes and upgrades instead of selling everything blindly.
  5. Extract while the run is still profitable. A nominal cash buff means little if your Operator goes MIA.

The interactive Hājīn map can help you compare named areas before deploying. Its markers are editorial reference positions—not guaranteed coordinates or verified live extraction points.

What was fixed on 29 October?

The developer lists DMZ fixes involving Mastery Camo challenge credit from squadmate actions, hostage pickup after assimilation, Lieutenant Tower interaction prompts, a disconnected teammate's Dog Tag being stored after extraction, and Encrypted Voice Logs spawning inconsistently during the Ears Everywhere Order. The same notes mention repairs for Hājīn terrain traps and overlapping vehicles close to the map boundary.

A separate recent-issues note says the Level 37 three-plate armour reward fix initially helped only players who had not yet passed that level. Infinity Ward says it is working on granting the reward to people who qualified earlier. That is an outstanding follow-up, not a confirmed completed compensation rollout.

Important: Possum changed on 28 October

The previous day's update placed restrictions on the Possum Trait. According to the developer, Possum cannot be activated while the team that eliminated you is nearby, or until four minutes have passed. The stated goal is to make it a survival second chance rather than an instant revenge mechanic.

If your strategy depended on quickly rejoining the same fight, change your plan. A longer wait and nearby enemies mean your teammates should not treat Possum as a guaranteed immediate rescue. The distance threshold is not supplied in the published summary, and Infinity Ward says it may tune the settings further.

Does this change the best guns and attachments?

Not directly in DMZ based on the 29 October notes. Do not confuse Multiplayer weapon tuning with DMZ balance. Infinity Ward explicitly describes bespoke tuning for both modes, so a Multiplayer damage-number change cannot automatically be presented as a DMZ nerf or buff.

The 28 October Multiplayer tuning notes do document changes affecting several assault rifles and SMGs, including the Han 86, Kastov 762, M4 and PPSh-41. Those figures belong to the mode and context reported by the developer. Until comparable DMZ testing or DMZ-specific changes are available, our DMZ loadout guide should prioritise reliable weapon roles and explain uncertainty, rather than pretending a single numerical meta is confirmed.

What should solo players and squads do next?

Solo: spend less time crossing the whole region for a speculative payout. Choose a manageable operation near your intended exit, pack medical supplies, and aim to bank progress. If you are still learning the mechanics, start with our first-deployment guide.

Squads: decide which member tracks objectives and which keeps an escape route open. Use the increased operation rewards as a reason to coordinate around achievable goals, not to charge into Critical or Extreme locations without preparation.

Everyone: check the official patch notes when a bug, mission requirement, menu item or trait behaves differently than an older guide describes. The patch changes are confirmed; their broader impact on the economy and emerging player strategies still needs observation.
