MW4 DMZ: X01 Black Site walkthrough
What is confirmed about DMZ's Season 1 X01 facility, how to prepare for it, and the verified facts separated from speculation.
Season 1 begins on 6 November. Activision's 28 October announcement confirms that DMZ's new destination is X01, a weapons facility whose extraction routes can close during a run. That single fact changes how you plan: an extraction you assumed was available may not be.
This guide uses only the confirmed information above. Where something is not confirmed, it is labelled as unknown rather than guessed.
Confirmed facts
- X01 is a weapons facility.
- Extraction routes can close during a run.
- DMZ Season 1 adds tunnels, changing hazards, new Orders and extraction steps.
- Multiplayer adds Backstab, Canyon and a reworked Shoot House at launch; Ministry and Overflow arrive mid-season.
- The Cronen Osprey assault rifle and CSG-35 SMG are in the Battle Pass.
- Warzone gets Hajin and Zodiac, with a separate roadmap still to come.
Unknown at the time of writing
None of the following should be treated as confirmed until Activision publishes it.
- Exact enemy count, boss encounters and their positions inside X01.
- Which extraction routes close, and on what trigger.
- Loot tables, key locations and locked rooms inside the facility.
- Australian rollout time and download size for Season 1.
None of the above should be treated as confirmed until Activision publishes it. Guides that state specific boss positions or key spawns for X01 are speculating.
How to prepare (practical, verified-safe advice)
- Bring a second weapon. Tunnels favour close-quarters; the facility exterior may not. One mid-range and one close-range weapon covers both.
- Carry more medical supplies than usual. Changing hazards imply environmental damage you cannot predict. Bandages and a medkit are cheap insurance.
- Plan two extraction routes before you enter. Because routes can close, identify a primary and a fallback before committing to the facility.
- Do not overfill your pack. Leave room for the loot that justifies the risk, and keep a slot free for a key or manual you were not expecting.
- Enter with a squad the first time. Solo runs are viable later, but the first run is reconnaissance.
During the run
- Move through tunnels methodically. Changing hazards mean the safe path now may not be safe on the way out.
- Complete Orders as you go rather than saving them for the end. XP is awarded for progress, and a closed extraction can end the run early.
- Listen for route closures. If an extraction you planned is no longer available, leave immediately rather than hunting for a better one.
- Extract with at least one high-value item early. Securing something is better than losing everything to a closed route.
After the run
If you extracted, identify which routes were open and which were closed and note the trigger if you can. If you did not, the XP you earned still counts toward your DMZ level. Either way, update your plan for the next run.
