NVIDIA GeForce 621.01: MW4 support, DLSS upgrades and the bugs it actually fixes
NVIDIA's 21 October WHQL Game Ready driver targets Modern Warfare 4, Phantom Blade Zero and RTX updates. Here are the documented fixes, sensible install steps and what isn't a benchmark.
GeForce Game Ready Driver 621.01 is an October update, not a new 3 November hardware launch. NVIDIA dates the WHQL-certified Windows driver to 21 October 2026. Its official release highlights target Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Phantom Blade Zero, among other game and RTX-technology updates. If you have seen claims of a universal performance increase, separate marketing language from measurements: this guide reports the vendor's documented support and fixes, not GameOnCue benchmark results.
What NVIDIA specifically lists
| Area | Official release details | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Warfare 4 | Game Ready support; NVIDIA also describes Advanced Shader Delivery support intended to reduce first-run shader compilation waiting | Update if you need its documented integration, then verify shader behaviour in your own system |
| Phantom Blade Zero | Game Ready optimisation and DLSS/RTX technology support | Confirm your GPU supports the specific technology before enabling it |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Support for the game's October technology upgrades, including NVIDIA's new DLSS integrations | Check each in-game setting against your card and current patch |
| Wuthering Waves | Fix for a reported crash involving Freestyle filters alongside DLSS Frame Generation | Relevant if you saw that precise crash |
| Star Citizen | Fix targeting a crash using the Vulkan API | Relevant to Vulkan users seeing that issue |
| Surviving Mars: Relaunched | Fix for a crash after updating to R595-family drivers | Relevant to this specific upgrade path |
| QHD 360 Hz displays | Addresses occasional black flashes reported on a high-refresh-rate monitor | Check monitor model and driver history before diagnosing your own black screen |
Also noted in NVIDIA's published fix list: an issue where G-SYNC Pulsar at 360 Hz could fall to 320 FPS, an intermittent Meta Horizon Link USB stream freeze, and dimming on certain Asus notebooks after R620 updates. None of these claims establishes a fix for every GPU, monitor or Windows installation.
What about MW4 loading times?
NVIDIA's driver feedback post explicitly says MW4 uses Advanced Shader Delivery to help skip shader compilation work. That's a feature claim, not an independently reproduced seconds-saved comparison. Local storage speed, prior cached shaders, installed game files and available driver support can all affect the experience. Do not translate this into invented before/after FPS or loading charts.
How to decide whether to update
- Open NVIDIA App or the official driver page and check your precise GeForce model and current driver.
- Read the 621.01 details and any more recent NVIDIA release notes. A historic driver should not be called the newest without verifying the driver catalogue on the day.
- If a listed fix addresses your issue, record your current working version and close running games before installing.
- Restart if the installer requires it, then test the game and graphics features you actually use. Avoid changing several performance settings simultaneously.
- If you see new regressions, compare with NVIDIA's official issue tracker and your system manufacturer's guidance before applying driver-cleaning tools or rolling back.
How this compares with AMD
Radeon owners should not install GeForce packages. Our separate AMD Adrenalin 26.10.2 guide documents its own fixes and known issues, including RX-series-specific crash reports. Driver branches, optimisation claims and supported hardware differ; there is no fair vendor-versus-vendor FPS ranking here without controlled testing.
Verification: the official 621.01 release listing and NVIDIA's game-support/bug discussion. Release notes are manufacturer evidence, not an independent GameOnCue GPU benchmark. The hero is an original information graphic, not a screenshot of game performance.
