1 November 2026, Queensland: Nintendo has made it official: 1 November is now Pikmin Day. In a short Nintendo Direct, Shigeru Miyamoto explained the date's playful link to the original trio of Pikmin and confirmed a free demo on 2 November for Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy. The complete upgraded edition launches Thursday 12 November, including in Australia. This is fresh information from the Nintendo announcement transcript, not a leaked new Pikmin sequel.

Tomorrow's demo: what you can try

Nintendo says the 2 November demo includes the original adventure's opening Sun-Speckled Terrace area and two Dandori Academy stages. No exact Australian eShop activation time has been provided, so “2 November” should not be interpreted as a guaranteed midnight Queensland download. Check the Switch 2 eShop on the announced date; downloading the demo is not the same as buying the full Switch 2 edition.

The new Dandori Academy: practice, exams and medals

The Academy asks players to move treasures as efficiently as possible, planning what each Pikmin carries and which routes they take. Nintendo's Australian product page describes 72 stages arriving over time, six per month, with different difficulty levels. Practice stages may be repeated, but the timed weekly exams run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and each exam may be attempted only once in that week's window.

Medals awarded for exam results can unlock rewards including user icons. The publisher also mentions online rankings; those features may require an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription and compatible services. This is not a report of verified 1 November rankings or the best strategies for a demo no one has yet publicly completed.

Own Pikmin 4 already? Don't buy the same game twice by accident

For people who already own Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo offers a separate Switch 2 upgrade pack. The original game must be owned to use that pack, and the Australian store may differ in price from the US listing. Owners should compare the local upgrade option against the standalone Switch 2 edition and confirm which Nintendo Account owns the original before paying. We are not inventing an A$ price.

Does Pikmin Bloom get anything?

Yes, but on a different roadmap. Nintendo announced Secret Caves for the mobile walking game Pikmin Bloom, with cave-map collection and Pikmin exploration/combat. The announcement calls this a winter update without a Queensland-local launch date. Don't present Secret Caves as already playable on 1 November or part of the Switch 2 demo.

What to do this week

  1. 2 November: check the Switch 2 eShop for the free Pikmin 4 demo and try the two Academy challenges.
  2. Before 12 November: compare the separate Australian upgrade pack and full Switch 2 edition. Existing owners may only need the upgrade.
  3. 12 November: official Australian release date. Check the local store for final pricing and any download/install details.
  4. For weekly exams: practice first, then read the real exam rules and timing in-game; there is no verified universal fastest route yet.
