Dark Souls II and III online servers interrupted — what players know
FromSoftware suspended online services on all platforms after a reported server problem. Co-op, invasions and messages are affected; there is no confirmed restoration time in the 30 October notice.

Checked 1 November 2026, Queensland time. FromSoftware announced on 30 October that it was temporarily stopping online-game servers for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III across platforms after identifying a server problem. The notice did not provide a restoration estimate or specify the technical cause. This article records that announcement; it is not live server telemetry and should not be taken as a guarantee that services are still offline at the moment you read it.
What's affected?
The two games combine offline combat and exploration with optional online features. While the affected servers are unavailable, players should expect co-operative summoning, invasions, messages and other network-dependent interactions to be unavailable or disrupted. This is not an announcement that Bandai Namco has removed the single-player campaigns or that purchased games have been delisted.
| Game | Publisher announcement | Reader action |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Souls II | Network game services suspended across platforms | Expect offline play; check the status notice before arranging co-op |
| Dark Souls III | Network game services suspended across platforms | Don't assume summons, invasions or messages work without a restored service |
Is this a permanent shutdown?
No permanent closure was announced. FromSoftware described the interruption as temporary and said it would publish another update when a restoration schedule was known. Without that follow-up, “servers shut down forever” would be an unjustified headline. We have also found no official technical explanation tying the interruption to a particular security vulnerability; speculation about its root cause must stay labelled speculation.
Why this matters for co-op and preservation
The multiplayer systems of the Dark Souls games are more than a separate lobby mode: summon signs, player messages and invasions help define how locations feel. An online outage changes a playthrough even if the main campaign remains playable. If you are beginning a challenge run with a friend, allow for solo progression until the publisher confirms network restoration.
FromSoftware's earlier 2022 PC multiplayer interruption provides context, not a prediction. Then, different entries returned on different schedules, and one older edition ultimately remained unavailable online. There is no basis for claiming the 2026 incident will follow exactly the same pattern or require the same technical fix.
What to do on PC, PlayStation and Xbox
- Check the current official support account before scheduling co-op or changing router settings. A publisher-wide outage is not repaired by forwarding random ports.
- Keep saves safe. Avoid unknown multiplayer-fix executables and do not replace save files just because signs and messages vanish.
- Distinguish local connectivity: if all online features fail while ordinary offline play continues, compare the publisher notice with your platform's service-status page before re-installing.
- Don't confuse game versions. Different editions of Dark Souls II and III have their own multiplayer communities and may be referenced separately in later updates.
What is still missing?
A confirmed restoration time, an official technical root cause, any per-edition exceptions and a post-restoration service check. The most reliable next step is the FromSoftware Player Support account; for the original announcement, see the 30 October report carrying the developer's Japanese notice. This page does not invent a live status dashboard or claim to have logged into the game.
